About Me

My name is Karlie Nix I transfered to South this term. I went to Faulkner for two and a half years, and couldn't get really excited about any of my classes there. My boyfriend, Michael decided to go back to school for his second Bachelors degree, and talked me into transferring to South, so here I am. We are both Elementary Education majors. When I am not in class I am at another school, the Neighborhood School, where I teach the afternoon toddler class. I love my job, it is a lot of fun and I take a lot away from it. When I am not at work, I am usually working..I babysit for a lot of the parents whom have children at the school. I live in Fairhope with my boyfriend, who shares custody of his beautiful & year old daughter, Lindsey. We always have a blast together and I am happy to be spending my time with them. I am the youngest of six, I have two brothers, two stepbrothers and a stepsister. I also have a niece and two nephews; one of whom was born last Sunday. A few of my favorite things include, but are not limited to: My boyfriend, Espresso, shopping, children, spending way to much money on clothes, coffee and magazines; and I love anything that allows me to be crative, so I really look forward to this class.

Technology > Human Brain Power?!

The Video entitled Did You Know left me with a strong feeling. I was unsure at first whether this was a positive or negative feeling; now I am sure that it is just pure awe and amazement. I simply cannot imagine how we have allowed technology to outgrow our own capabilities. I will not go as far to say that computers will "take over the world," but I believe one of the reasons they will outsmart is because with computers we are taking things easy. Cashiers no longer have to know how to count, people are losing good penmanship abilities simply because everything is typed and nobody expects handwritten letters or assignments. People are becoming less personal as well because computers are infiltrating every aspect of our lives. Cellphones now have computer capabilities and people are emailing or texting rather than talking face to face or making a phone call. Technology is great, but sometimes enough is enough!
